Dawn of Man
I hope some of you watched the Bowerbirds video, because it is really excellent. David Attenborough, the guy who made the documentary, is one of the most awesome people in the world, and that special is one of his best nature films.
I’ve been out of commission for the last few weeks with some personal issues, so I haven’t been able to do anything with this site. However, now I’m putting together my college class, and I’ll be compiling some more videos to show them. I’ll try to post anything interesting here too, but if I forget you can follow along on the course website or my own site.
Anyway, I wanted to show you guys 2001: A Space Odyssey in class but couldn’t find it at Blockbuster. Luckily, YouTube comes through.
The Dawn of Man
Hi, Dan- it’s Sam, the trusty note-taker. So what do I think, you ask? I think that Stanley Kubrick is a genius and you’re a nut. Kidding! You’re pretty smart yourself
Actually, I saw 2001 for the first time a few weeks ago, and my head is still spinning. I go to sleep every night hoping I’ll wake up to a giant black rectangle, or at least a floating fetus. But anyway, my favorite part of the second video was when the monkey reached for the nut- reminded me how similar “monkey-like” and “human-like” (that’s mention, not use, right?) are. But the clip definitely would have been better if Sprach Zarathustra had been playing as the monkeys smashed the nuts. Okay, sorry this comment lacked any insight or intelligent thought. I’m not setting a good example. But hey, I read that Arthur Clark said that if I understand A Space Odyssey then he failed (or something like that), so I think it’s okay to just let the images and concepts float around my head for a while. Hope your next adventure is treating you well! Take care. ~Sam
